Apart from well known and priced military vehicles, that were used by Deutsche Afrika Korps, in North Africa were also vehicles that becouse of various factors never was famous, and stayed in shadow of "cousins"...

To find out more about this one we must go back to 1935. This year October 30th German High Command wrote a raport named "Offensive Abwehr von Panzerwagen" what we can translate "defence versus tanks".

this is long text so in short:

HQ find out on test at Kummersdorf July 11th 1935, that they need special weapon against enemy tanks. To this time all thought that best weapon against tank is another tank. In this raport HQ shows that wehrmacht needs tank destroyer. German officers fought that best weapon against heavy bomber is not another heavy bomber, but small and quick fighter. The same should be on the ground. So they order new construction with this parameters:

1) large speed

2) very good mobility (especialy off road)

3) efficient range of fire against armoured vehicles over 700 meters

4) easy and cheap production

New vehicle called Pz.Sfl.II was ordered in two companies:

Buessing-NAG (vehicle)

Rheinmetall-Borsig (armament)

As a chassis was used BN10H (Fgst.Nr. 2006-2008). There were produced 3 different prototypes: one in 1936, second in august 1939 last in january 1940. All were marked as 7,5 cm Selbstfahrlafette Modell 1. In 1941 in Rheinmetall-Borsig workshops were finished two vehicles ready to combat (was also third, but we don't know what happened with them). They were marked Pz.Sfl.II – 7,5 cm Kannone L/41 auf Zgkw.5t (HKP 902). Main gun 7,5 cm Kanone L/40,8 (41) was on turret and could be raised 20 degrees. There were used 6,8 kg shells K.Gr.rot. with initial speed 685 m/s or 5,85 kg Sprenggranate (HE 485 m/s). To vehicle could be loaded 35 shells (sometimes we can find different data). Armor wasn't thick.

Front 20 mm , sides 10-14,5 mm , back 10 mm , top 10,5 mm , bottom 5,5 mm. Engine Maybach HL 45, 150 HP at 3800 rpm. Max speed 50 Km/h

Crew 4 men: commander, gunner, loader and driver.

Table with effieciency:

100 meters - max. armor penetration 66 mm, accuracy 100%

500 meters - 64 mm - 100%

1000 meters - 62 mm - 98%

1500 meters - 59 mm - 77%

2000 meters - 55 mm - 49%

It was good enough in beggining 1941.

In august 1941 from Panzertruppenschulle in Wunsdorf both vehicles were formed as Panzer-Jaeger Zug (Sfl) and attached to Panzer-Jeager Abteilung 605. P-J Zug was formed from two Pz.Sfl II, two 1.gl.Pkw.(Kzf.1) and one m.gl.Lkw. There is no acurate info about duty of Pz.Sfl II in Africa. All what we know is this:

December 7th 1941 one of them was transported from Germany to Italy

January 5th 1942 was unloaded in Tripolis

January 15th 1942 one officer send report that they are in trip to PzJagAbt 605

January 17th was report that one Pz.Sfl II arrived to PzJagAbt 605

February 23rd 1942 second Pz.Sfl II arrived to Tripolis.

March 31st 1942 was report that both Pz.Sfl II are ready to fight.

Mai 25th was report that only one Pz.Sfl II is ready. It took part in operation "Venezia".

Last report June 5th 1942 that last Pz.Sfl II was destroyed.

Morsertrager auf Fahrgestell

This was a prototype of a mortar carrier for the armoured formations. Only a single prototype was ever made.

Schutzenpanzerwagen on the chassis of the SdKfz 138 Ausf M.

In this single prototype, the gun was removed, the front plate was made solid and the rear armour was brought to full height and had a double door, opening to the sides. Inside were benches for eight soldiers.

In late 1944 a specification was issued for a fully tracked personnel carrier based on a lengthened 38(d) chassis. By adding a fifth road wheel, the length was increased to 6.2 m. The armour was 30 mm at the front and 20 mm on the sides.

The vehicle was designed to carry a hemispherical turret armed with a 20 mm dual-purpose cannon and had a crew of four. In its rear section it carried the standard eight man PanzerGrenadier section.

Its weight was planned to be 12 tonnes. It would have had a maximum speed of 30 km/hr and a range of 200 km. Only a mock up of this vehicle was ever built.

On 15 September, 1939 the tank testing and development centre of the army's armament office (Wa. Pruf-6) was asked to develop a suitable fast fully tracked reconnaissance vehicle.

In the summer of 1940 the Wa.Pru-6 officially asked the following three companies to submit prototypes. The three companies being BMM, Skoda and MAN.

The new tank had to have a maximum speed of 50 km/hr and a weight between 12-13 tonnes. Frontal armour was planned to be 30 mm, side armour 20 mm. Armament was planned as one gun between 2 cm and 3.7 cm and one machine gun in a fully rotating turret. Ground pressure was specified at a maximum of of 0.8 kg/cm2.

BMM used its well proven PzKpfw 38(t) design for the new tank. It had to slightly increase the size of the hull due to the need for a more powerful engine. The turret was completely redesigned, with sloped sides and an observation cupola for the commander. The chassis remained the same, only the diameter of the road wheels being increased from 775 mm to 810 mm. BMM developed a new 8-cylinder petrol engine of 248 hp (183.3 kW) and a new Praga-Wilson gearbox for the tank.
