"At a meeting in Berlin with Wa Pruef 6 on 3 March 1942, B.M.M. was reqeusted to mount a 7.5 cm Sturmkanone onto their Pz.Kpfw.38(t) chassis to create a self-propelled anti-tank gun as a project authorized by Hitler himself. Rheinmetall-Borsig was awarded a contract to design the gun mount, and B.M.M. was awarded contracts to design the superstructure and assemble a single Versuchsfarzeug (test vehcile). B.M.M. completed the Versuchsfarzeug with the 7.5 cm Stu.K.40 L/43 mounted on a bridge bolted to the Pz.Kpfw38(t) chassis. An open topped superstructure protected the crew of four only against small arms fire and artillery shell fragments from the front and sides. With armor varying from 10 to 50 mm thick, the Versuchsfarzeug weighed 11 metric tons. With a Praga Typ TNHPS/II engine rated at 125 horsepower it had a fairly low power to weight ratio and a maximum speed of 35 km/hr. Only a single Versuchsfarzeug was completed by B.M.M. without any series production contracts being awarded."
